MLearn RichPen MOJO Precision Airbrush
Mike Learn has been airbrushing for 28 years. In that time, he has used nearly every airbrush on the market, starting at the age of 12 with a Paasche and a Badger, and moving later to Thayer & Chandler. For the past 10 years, Mike has been painting almost exclusively with Iwata guns, noting their quality and durability.
In the Spring of 2005, at Dave Perewitz’s Grand Opening party, Steve Angers of Bear Air introduced Mike to the RichPen Phoenix 213C. Immediately Mike noticed that the gun felt natural in his hand. The extra machining on the sides of the body allowed a thinner and more comfortable grip. He instantly noticed the consistent spray. “Honestly, I was shocked by the performance of the stock gun,” says Learn. “I have always ‘tuned’ my airbrushes. I have a certain regimen that I do the get the most out of any gun. The stock RichPen however, is every bit as good, if not better, than the stock Iwata Micron C+.
Since his initial trial was so positive, Mike decided to take the RichPen to the next level. He made some changes to the mechanicals to allow finer output, and then performed his standard set of tune-ups. The result, what is now known as the RichPen/MLearn Phoenix MOJO, instantly performed beyond Mike’s expectations. “The level of detail I was able to get was consistent and extremely well defined,” states Mike. “The ability of the RichPen to hold a line tighter allows detail that I have not achieved with any other brush. The modified RichPen clearly outperforms the modified Iwata Micron C+. It is like increasing the resolution on my creativity monitor.”
Mike is not the only airbrush artist to realize the power of the RichPen. Vince Goodeve, another extremely well known artist from Ontario Canada has been using his RichPen for some time now.
Having been a micron user for years, Mike cannot stress the performance of this brush enough. It is easy to adapt to and the significantly lower price point is just an added bonus. “I’m sending a RichPen MOJO to Fitto in Quebec” Mike chuckles. “We met recently at a show and he mentioned that he was unhappy with his micron. I can’t wait to hear what he says about the RichPen."
The RichPen/MLearn Phoenix MOJO Series airbrushes are specially designed guns and are currently available only through Mike Learn Airbrush & Design. The MOJO airbrush is configured to Mike's specifications and completely hot rod tuned. Each gun is also engraved with Mike's Signature. The Phoenix MOJO retails for $299, over $300 less than the retail price of the Iwata Micron C-Plus.
