Hi all,

I just had a potential client ask if I could paint some skulls on his truck interior that only appear when he turns on a black light he will install under the seat. The interior will be painted black. I have told him that if I could do it, the skulls will only be one color with little or no dimension. I have experimented with adding glow powder to transparent extender for painting some glow in the dark shirts and jackets in the past but I was hoping there would be a better way. I will be using stencils to lay in the skulls.

Any suggestions?

the alsa glow powers work awesome, i don't know if your using paint or water colors tho, I used the alsa stuff with sem mix clear and it worked great, and once you based the skulls in you could go over them with candy black to get some definition and to make them more 3D looking. Or you could use some white lighting ghost pearl, it would really reflect the light, but i don't think there would be any glow to it, it would just reflect the light in a very cool color i would think. :sorcerer:

Thanks,

I can work in either way (water based or solvent based). Is Alsa's glow powder fine enough to keep it from looking grainy? Will it show up under black light if I go over it with candy black or violet?

Doesn't the Alsa powder gets charge by light and then glows in the dark? I don't know if it will glow with a black light. What I have, if you put it under a liht and then shut the light off, it glows like crazy!!!

I have a bottle of Aqua Flow (thanks Steve! :) ) that is waterbase and will glow with a black light.

Painterguy has done a whole hood with Alsa glow powder...maybe he could come in and fill us in. He did something extremely detailed. I will send him a message so he can jump in.

hey there ... I've been playin with Alsa's Super Glow powders for a bit now...
the black light will charge it up.. but no where near as natural day light...
i have found that using a high solids mix clear (SEM's works awesome !) or using a High Solids clear to suspend the effects powder works the best...over brite white as a base..
even in the short period of time between coats flashing off the powder will settle !!
i wound up pouring off my effects powder mix back into the mixing pail between coats...
hope this helps ya ...

Flouresents will glow under a blacklight.....but they dont hold up very well under long exposure to sunlight...the pigment in the paint will fade to white under long term sun exposure. They dont glow in the dark...but glow only under blacklighting.

just dont use a clear with a UV shield as it will dull the flourescents which rely on UV

Considering what the project will be (truck interior, away from sunlight), It seems flourescents seem to be the better approach. The client wants the interior to be black so I'm thinking about using a transparent flourescent purple to (somewhat) blend in until the black light is on.

Thanks for your help everyone. This is the first time I used the forum and based on the responses, it won't be my last.
