bob what kinda black you usein? and at what air pressure? to me it looks like either you black it to thin or your air pressure is to high for that mix. :em3700:

Looking good Bob!
Great part to paint on. You should introduce a third color in your skull... a dark bonish beige or brown... it would set it up just right and pull up details.

I'm with Shane, there is something with your black...what did you do? :D

Well I'm glad you asked cause I was wondering the exact same thing. Mr. Shane... it's your Sem black, pressure is at about 25 psi maybe 23. I'm thinking it's to thin but when I was spraying I could hear that grainy sound. Isn't the mix 50/50, fill the a.b cup half way with paint then top it off with thinner? That's what Mike does with his white! Please let me know.

Yea 1:1 sounds right. But I always make as much as I'm going to use before hand. Than tweak it in the cup if It's to thick.

I recommend mixing it in a cup before spraying. What happened is the paint being heavier then the reducer, it sank to the bottom. Thats why you had the grainy sound. You should also try 30 to 35 psi, It will probably help.

black by nature is much thinner than white, the ration of 50/50 should be thin enuf already, if you need to reduce farther i would use reducer instead of the lacquer thinner. the main reason the lacquer thinner works so well with the white is cause the pigment it white is a lot heavier then with black ( or most dark colors for that matter ) If you do continue to want to reduce the way your doing it i would say go down to about 15 to 20 psi. if you look at the strokes you have here you can see how its thin in the middle and dark on the edges , this tells me that the liquid is blowing away from the center of the stroke, what you have going here is called a "flood" stroke, there's a place and time for it but not in this instance, your looking for a detail stroke, heavy in the middle and light on the edges. this will make more of a blend rather then a harsh dark edge.

Here's the end result. I'm thru with fuckin with this thing. It's not the image or what it's on or anything like that....It's trying to get detail out of this fuckin rootbeer candy. Sorry for my language but I'm up to here with this stuff. I'm sure it's something I'm doin wrong but hell I can't afford trial and error with these custom paints. :surrender:

Bob, I think you are psyching yourself out. It looks good!

You crisped up the skull nicely and I think the rootbeer brings warmth to it.
Nice work!
