Had my first go at eye's. :3b: I'm rather pleased with myself :3b:
I'm posting it first without the eyelashes as I know I'm going to mess it up-ha ha.
I'll add the eyelashes and repost!

Very good girl!
Relax about the eyelashes... you can do it!

Like Annie said just practice a bit and go for it. Nice job. If I could add a small bit of constructive criticism, I'd say watch the sheilding above the eye. It's looking a bit to crisp. Maybe go over the lines freehand to get rid of that really hard edge. Keep up the good work and let us see when you get the eyelashes on.

It is a good effort Ruth. How big is the piece. You have used loose stencils very nicely to define the shape. Next time mix it up a bit with some of the definition being applied freehand.

Nice job Ruth! Don't stress about the eyelashes. I'd say leave this one as is. Later on when you feel more comfortable you can do another eye with lashes.

Agree on the advice. Watch your crisp edges especially on the iris and pupil. The edges are a soft transition but you will get that in time.
I use shield to just lightly 'map' it out, ghosting the color in then it's all free hand from there.
Look at each part of the eye and a tiny section instead of the viewing the whole thing. Work it like a puzzle, small areas at a time. It all comes together in the end.

Eyelashes are tricky the first few times but once you paint them as they truly are, they become easy.

Download a few images of eye close ups. Do a Google image search or check out some of the free image sites for refs. That was really helpful to me at first.
I LOVE painting eyes, it's my most favorite part of the portrait, next is hair but it's all good!
Keep going!

Good job on that eye! Hair(s) can be a bit intimidating, but eyelashes are over rated anyway. :21b:

jj You can get'em on thar!

Looks good, try to freehand the folds for a more realistic look in the skin, and maybe some more detail in the eye around iris. Looking great though.
