We would like to welcome all the new members to the Mike Learn Members Only Bulletin Board. We are confident that you will find these pages full of useful information and are very happy to provide support for all our content.

Please read the information below if you cannot see the Forums, or if you are unable to post in the Forums:

If this is your first visit and you cannot see the posts in the forums below, please make sure that you register for the boards. At this time, registering as a Member does not automatically register for the Bulletin Boards. You will only need to do this ONE TIME, and then you are in.

If you have registered, and cannot post, you should check your email. Once you register for the boards, an email is generated to the address that you used to sign up. It is very important that you click the confirmation link in that email to activate your account.

The confirmation email is generated immediately. If you have a filter on your mail, you may need to look in the junk folder for it. If you do not receive and email immediately, it is possible that the email address you entered was incorrect or incomplete and you should double check it in your personal profile that you can edit from the User CP link in the menu bar.

If, after reading the info above, you are still having problems, you can shoot us an email at info@mikelearn.com and I will investigate further.

THANKS! And Enjoy the Site!

Hi guys!
I just joined the site here. Im still new to AB but finally stepped up from single to dual stage. The difference has really inspired me to learn. I am currently ABing my motorcycle and been a rollercoaster of trial and error. I am hopeful that between here and the mag I will pick up some good habits.

Im off to do some reading (slacking at work)

This is my first post here, and I just wanted to say thanks to Derek, Shane, and Don. I met you guys in chat the other night and your advice has been great. Originally I had plans just for my wife to start abing, but after looking at the art and meeting a great bunch of people here I'm gonna do it to. I am gonna get my wife a MOJO as a suprise, but I she might have to share. She's a real good artist so I think she'll make the transition to ab more easily. I'm just having a helluva time making daggers! Oh, and get a class up here in the Sacramento Area. I (we) would love to go! And yeah, don't ask about the username.:naughty:

Dear Mike and Crew,
I was sent an issue of AB from Bearair, and it was the issue "Them is fighting words" article. After i read that article I went right out and Purchased a vinyl plotter. I have been hand doing all my masking and drawing and cutting for about 15 years. Till I read that. It has cut out about 8-10 hours of work!!!
I am a Professional Tattoo Artist, for a living, and airbrush for the love of it.
My point...the line drawing that i use, is the same that i load into the plotter!
And BINGO out comes cut mask!!!!! I have been working the last month cutting and brushing skate decks for my 5 kids, I cant get enough of it!!! it is like you
re awoke that little boy in me again that just picked up an airbrush for the first time!!!

I want to be more involved in the going ons here at this site, but i need a minute to figure out how and where everything is!
but right now I am trying to figure out the requirements for the Panel Swap. I cant find the Spec and rules. there is so much info my A.D.D. is going crazy...hahaha
so if you could help me out that would be great, and if i dont get the project done maybe i can make the next one! (But i like Pressure Deadlines)

Thanks Mike and Crew,

Hello everyone! I'm new here and I have one question about how to join the Learn Academy live online class. Or is there any AB learning program I can take since I live so far away, in Vietnam. Thank you very much!

bob mc
07-19-2007, 02:42 PM
The class takes place over the webcam and chat room simultaneously.

The Learns make a forum posting when a class is scheduled, and it is usually noted in the calender portion of the site webpage as well.

I believe the classes are open to any registered member.

Times are usually noted in US Mountain time zone times... so you might have to convert to find what local time to be there.

Hi there Custom ZX-14, let me be the first to welcome you. I'm a beginner myself. I gotta tell you, I've had several cheap airbrushes starting out. I was near the point of giving up, thinking that the problems I was having was just because I wasn't skilled enough, or that I just didn't have what it takes. Just recently I bought a Mojo airbush, and let me tell you, the control you get with this thing is awesome. Fine line work no longer becomes a scary issue. A nice added feature, is that it is the best, but it is not the highest airbrush on the market.

The good people who run this site, and that sell the Mojo, Mike and Diana, do not need me to push the Mojo on anyone. They sell plenty of them with out my input. What I'm saying is, I'm not trying to push the Mojo just because I like Mike and Di, or because I'm a member of this site, I'm just saying that if you buy a Mojo, and you're new to the airbrushing world, and there is even a speck of an artist living in your soul, you're going to find that artist and bring it to the top.

Well that's all I've got to say about that right now, welcome to the site, and I hope to see you around.

john

If you are looking to airbrush only, it's one thing...if you wanna do the prep work, primer, sanding, basecoat and clear, it's another.
I'll answer the airbrush part for now. If you are buying your first airbrush and don't wanna spend a ton of money, I strongly reccomend the Peak C5. It's very versatile and allows you to do fine lines to a resonably large spray. Once you can handle this baby properly, it's time to invest in a Richpen Mojo. And if you wanna start with a bottle feed instead of the Peak C5, I recommend the Richpen Moflo.
If you will use uros (Base coat, automotive paints, solvent based) you will need a cartridge mask or an air adduction mask (this one needs a compressor to bring you fresh air).
You will need a compressor if you don't have one. If noise is a factor, go with Silentair. Make sure you buy one with an air reserve tank or else, it will heat up and might die. If you wanna be able to drive other tools like a sander, a regular size paint gun and such, get the biggest you can affoard and not an oiless one.
You will need stuff like tack rags, chalk, transfer paper, knifes, xacto, saral paper (to transfer ur design like carbon paper kinda).
Don't forget to buy a hose with your airbrush.
I hope this helps for now!

Annie :D

Aloha and welsome to da site. Those kind of compressions suck. You need something w/ a tank or tanks. DO NOT go cheap on the equipment. Like John said, you'll think it's you, and it not. You can go to sears and get a small compressor with a tank, oil lubricated, for around 100 bucks. If you go to bear air you can get a paasche VL with all the different needles and nozzles and a few different cups/jars for 70 or so I think, it also comes with a hose, then all ya gotta do is buy a twenty or fifty foot hose, put a water/oil filter on the end of that, and you're good to go, well, with some paint and whatnot of course lol
