Those of you with Roland Cutters:

It is very important that you keep up to date on your software and program versions, patches and plug-ins. If you are having trouble cutting or getting your software to work properly, please START HERE:

PCs:

1. The most current version of CutStudio for Windows is 1.21. If you are not running that version, you need to update

2. You need to upgrade your CutStudio to 1.21 to run Illustrator. The NEW Illustrator CutStudio PlugIn supports Illustrator 9 - CS2. Read and Follow the Installation Instructions!

The CutStudio application must be installed in order for this updater to function properly. Please refer to the "readme.txt" file for installation instructions.

3. CorelX3 Users must update as well. The new Corel PlugIn supports CorelDRAW versions 10-X3. Run the pluginsetup.exe and Read and Follow Installation Instruction!

ALL THE UPDATERS MENTIONED ABOVE CAN BE OBTAINED HERE:
http://rolanddga.com/asd/support/wiz...pt=&modelmenu=

Macs:

1. The Illustrator PlugIn for CS2 in in the works, but is not yet available. Any Mac owners having issue with cutting from Illustrator PLEASE UPDATE your PlugIn. The current updater is used to correct an issue where the SV Series or GX Series cutter cannot cut from Illustrator for the MacOS X operating system. When the cut command is issued from the CutStudio Plugin, the dialog box immediately goes to a finish condition and the cutter does not cut. Updated Adobe Illustartor Plug-ins are also part of this update. To apply this update refer to the RASD-SB00024.PDF bulletin for instructions. The files should automatically extract upon download. If not, a utility such as Stuffit Expander should be used to extract the files.

ALL THE UPDATERS MENTIONED ABOVE CAN BE OBTAINED HERE:

Support Bulletin: RASD-SB00003
Model: Roland GX-24
Subject: Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Cutstudio Plug-in
Date: 2/10/2006
Author: RR

The following information describes issues with installing and using the Roland CutStudio Plug-ins with Adobe Illustrator CS2 for Windows and the Macintosh platforms.

Adobe Illustrator CS2 for Windows:
When installing the CutStudio plug-in for Illustrator, the plug-in will install for versions 9, 10 and CS. However the plug-in will not install under Adobe Illustrator CS2. The reason is that the path that the Roland plug-in installer attempts to install to is not written in the Roland installer for CutStudio. To get the plug-ins to work, you must manually copy the 2 plug-in files to the Adobe Illustrator CS2 plug-in directory (path is listed below).
The files that are needed to copy over to Adobe Illustrator CS2 are located in the plug-in folder on the GX-24 CD. The files are as follows;

CutStudioPlugin_e
CSAIPin_e

The files should then be copied to the following location (assuming the customer did a default
installation of Adobe Illustrator CS2);

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator CS2\Plug-ins\

NOTE: If you installed Adobe Illustrator CS2 to a custom location, you would need to locate the
Illustrator CS2\Plugin folder manually and copy the above two files over to the new location.

Adobe Illustrator CS2 for MAC:
At the current moment the CutStudio plug-in does NOT work with Adobe Illustrator CS2 for the
MAC, it only works with Illustrator 9, 10 and CS ONLY. Roland is currently working on an update, but no ETA has been listed.

Support Bulletin: RASD-SB00019
Model: Roland SV-8/12/15 STIKA Design Cutters
Subject: Print/Cut Workflow
Date: 6/6/2006
Author: RR

The following outlines the Print/Cut workflow for the Roland SV-8, SV-12 & SV-15 STIKA Design Cutters.

Step 1: Creating Data
1. Start CutStudio.

2. Click [File], then click [Cutting Setup].
The [Cutting Setup] dialog appears.

3. Select the model name of the cutter (SV-8, SV-12 or SV-15) you are using under [Name].

4. Click [Properties] and set the cutting range on the [Size] tab to match the size of the loaded material.
* If you are setting width on the SV-15 model, click [ ] to select either 250mm (9.84 in.) or 340mm (13.39 in.) .
You cannot change the width for SV-12/8 models.
* For length, set a range of the length of the loaded material minus the margins.

5. Click [OK]. On the next window, click [OK] as well.

6. Click [File], then click [Print & Cut].
The printing range and crop marks appear on the screen.
The printing range appears as dotted lines. The printing range is the paper size specified under [Set up the printer] minus the margin specified in [Printing Setup].

7. Click [File] - [Set up the printer]. The [Print Setup] dialog appears. Configure the printer used for printing,
the paper size, direction, etc. as needed, then click [OK].
* Configure the paper direction so that it matches the cutting range direction. If zoom print is on, switch off. Print
at 100%. Refer to your printer instruction manual for further information.

8. Click [File] - [Printing Setup]. The [Printing Setup] dialog appears.
Click [Fit into shared area for cutting and printing], then click [OK].
The crop marks are situated to enclose the common areas of the cutting and printing range.
* You can also configure this setting by inputting a numeric value for the distances to the margin and to the corp
marks. When you input a numerical value, consider the margin required for cutting.
* We recommend setting crop marks to encompass the entire printing range.

9. Click [ ] and the image data you want to print is imported. The read image displays faintly.
* To change the strength of the image display, show the [Preferences] dialog under [File] - [Preferences] and
click [General].
* CutStudio can read the following file formats.
• JPEG format . JPEG format images saved as CMYK cannot be read.
• BMP format

10. Arrange data inside the crop marks.

11. Draw cutting lines.

12. Save the data.

Step 2: Printing

1. Load the material into the printer.
* Refer to your printer instruction manual for loading instructions.

2. Click [ ]. The [Print] dialog appears.

3. Verify that the name of the printer you are using to print is displayed and click [OK]. The image data with
crop marks prints. The cutting lines drawn with CutStudio do not print.

Step 3: Loading Material

1. Load the printed material into the machine and turn power on.
* Execute a STIKA Navi [Media Jam Test] to easily verify proper sheet feeding.
* Load the material so that the crop marks are positioned as indicated in the figure below. If you change the
material orientation and load, crop marks cannot be set.
Note:
• Crop marks cannot be set in the following cases. Remove the material and load again.
o The left/right crop marks are slanted 5 or more degrees from the cutting carriage movement direction.
o The material is offset 15mm (0.59 in.) or more from the material feed direction
• The material printed onto by the printer may curl.
Do not use material that is curved as indicated in the figure. Doing so can cause the material to jam or come
loose.
Flatten the material and then reload it into the machine.
• If there are any folds or wrinkles in the material, flatten before loading.
If you use material that is folded or creased, it may jam or come loose. If this happens, prepare a new sheet of
material and start over from "Step 2: Printing".

Step 4: Cutting

1. Click [ ]. The [Cutting] dialog appears.

2. Verify the [Name] and click [OK]. The [Cropmark Reading] dialog appears.

3. Verify that the material is loaded as displayed in the dialog and click [Next].

4. Use the cursor buttons to move the blade to the crop mark at the upper left of the material.

Adjust the protruding sections of the crop marks so that they are even with the blade holder area.
* Select [Slow] and then click the cursor button to finely adjust the location. Use your finger to lightly press down on the
cutting carriage to bring the blade holder close to the crop marks, and verify the location by looking at it from the side.
Make sure that the blade holder does not protrude from the crop marks.

5. Verify that the blade and the crop mark locations line up and then click [Next]. The upper left crop mark
location is set and the blade moves to the vicinity of the upper right crop mark.

6. Set the right upper crop mark the same way in the next dialog, set the left lower crop mark location in the
third dialog, then click [Finish].
The cutting operation starts.
