Ok guys. . . It has taken us a bit to get this program off the ground, but we are VERY PROUD to bring these SEM / Color Horizons kits to you. A lot of effort has been put forth by SEM, Mike & Krash and Steve at Bear Air to not only improve the Color Horizons Product Line, but to create Custom Paint Kits that are, in our opinion, the most complete and the best value on the market today.
The initial offerings are fantastic. The kits that Steve has put together are outstanding, and with our detailed instructions and tips, we provide you with something that is dedicated to the success of the user.
As you have probably noticed, these kits and the individual sizes overed by Bear Air are geared towards the hobbyist and/or airbrush artist who does not lay down a lot of paint. I am well aware that we have a very large and solid base of members here who are professionals and need to get these products in larger quanitities and in full strength. I have spoken to Steve about this issue. If we can show that there is a real demand for buying in these quanitities, Steve is willing to provide them. But we have to show some sort of committment to him for Bear Air to invest in such large quantities of inventory.
Please use this thread as a discussion. I will invite both Steve and Flea to participate. Mike is extremely happy with the new improved line, and, well those of you who were in last week's class heard what he said. Let's rally our support together and help make this new line of product more widely available!

Liam
PS,
I just need to say this , i am all for getting the stuff in , but if you plan on high shipping cost and handling fees , i will not buy . I really want to use this product . I am just telling you this so you dont go out and get all stocked up and me not buy , because of high shipping charges and handling fees . you will have to stock it all , clear , reducer , paint , and primer all the stuff SEM carries.
I know i ask alot but hey i know it can be done , i have seen it done .
thank you very much for even thinking about it

A lot of you guys no me and no that i use a lot of different materials and equipment. That being said i can tell you that I'm switching from hok to sem the prices and quality of there line is real appealing and the special affects stuff is starting to come out as well. I think that if you need a good line to bring in to your arsenal of materials is is one Id seriously take a look at the fact that they can provide some spray can primer and a pretty good adhesion promoter is a good thing because your able to do small primer jobs with out the purchase of a primer gun is pretty cool, Ive tried this stuff myself(spray can primer) and i like it a lot! Now if we as a group can get Steve to sell the full strength stuff to us it will be a big deal lots of "hobbyist" are not able to get small quantities of the materials that are used without buying premixed so this is a good opportunity to save some money and buy the paint and candy's that we all use and mix them yourself at the strengths that you need instead of the mixes that are provided by some one else. If it would be of interest i would be willing to help with some basic mixing questions from those that don't no how, its not that hard and can save you a ton of money in the long run!

Are these colors the same as the older stuff? Or have they just been reduced?
We have a SEM re-seller quite close to me here in the UK and I would too be very interested in looking harder at this range but . . we have this Legislation for Jan 1st 07 looming over our heads here and also, 2009 apparently, the USA is going the same way with no solvents.
I'm just a-wondering what you guys think about this over there? I know it doesn't directly affect you today or next week but it will soon and it's already leaving me stumped here when students ask about buying-in PPG stock or HOK or even SEM?
We all know that solvents are better for detail, it is a chemical thang and can't really be succesfully argued otherwise, but the legislation over here is going to be very strict. The typical 'Hobbyist' or 'Fred-in-the-shed' as they are referred to in the UK are EXACTLY the guys the paint industry wants to hit hardest, simply because is it easier to do so. The large companies such as ICI/PPG etc have already become compliant and the big 2ton-ers of solvent waste per yr spray shops changed over to water-bourne/water-based at least 3-4 yrs ago.
The biggest issue is that even if there is some sort of loophole like the chaps at HOK over here say there will be (this is the 'Classic Car arguement meaning all custom paint is still OK if you have to paint 'classic' cars and bikes?) it doesn't really matter, because they are going for manufacture/distributor and it will all be phased out. So where do you get it from then?
I had a chap in my class last week who works for Spies Hecker and he recons that ALL shops will be newly regulated meaning you HAVE to give your business details in the next year or so if you still buy stock for depletion of solvent-based. The Big Brother scenario then kicks-in because you go on a system, even as little guy, and they will come check you out to see what you are up to. You will also have to have a license.
It really does make you realise that like it or not, over here in Europe, we really DO have the sing their song, after Jan 1st it's non-solvent based or nothing!
Would love to hear what our friends over the pond think of all this as I'm sure it will effect you in the not-too-distant . . . . .
But fer now, I'd say buy LOTS from Mike, you'll be doing yourself a BIG favour! :)
Cheers

The difference is the bonus items. The Super contains the entire set of Mike Learn hard Templates, not just Field of Screams.

I am certainly interested in the mix clear and possibly the black and white concentrates. With that said I would need it in the larger quantities. Not sure if this would be cost effective. I currently buy Mix Clear for $76/gal. Not the new stuff.
Will the new mix clear be available by our jobbers?

If I need small quantities I go to Coast Airbrush but I usually buy Quarts of paint and gallons of clear, intercoat, and reducers for the best price. I may have to take a look at the Sem offerings.

Hey Ya'll
I am so lucky to have such great partners in Mike,Di,Krash in helping us get our products in the hands of everyone, and helping me get products evaluated for the airbrush industry. We are very proud to have them on board as well as Steve @ BearAir. We are trying very hard to come out with the absolute best custom finish products on the market and can only do that by listening to the pro's that use it every day. I made a list of painters back in Dec. 03 that i thought were the biggest HITTERS in the biz and Mike and Co. were on the top of my list and they have proved me right, Mike,Krash and Diana are not only professionals but they are extemley dedicated to there customers AND students. Steve is also a true pro at what he does and is also commited to putting out the best for his customers. It is a huge win for me and SEM to have them as partners. This business is getting harder and harder every day to keep things going, all the paint companies have jumped in with there custom lines lately but they dont really focus on the CUSTOM industry, they have it just to have it. We are totally commited to the CUSTOM PAINT business ONLY. Just like it was years ago, a man went door to door selling a can at a time.........We are dedicated and focused on all of you in the industry and wont stop till everyone at least try's it one time.
If any one needs any tech advise on any of our products feel free to either call me or email me. I will try to get on here as much as possible, but i am traveling every other week of the year putting on clinics.
thanks to everyone

I have been using SEM since Ron came here and showed us the line.
They only custom painting I did before that was mixing my own colors
with mixing machines, both PPG and R-M Diamont You can make some cool
stuff with a mixing system and designed my own version of Hyperbase,
that is I made a tranperent type candy and added pearl in it to make some cool
colors.I also made a real cool Purple which is all gone now. Those were one of
Colors and I couldn't duplicate it again.I like the fact that SEM
has an assortment of Candy colors and under different base you can make
even more versions then SEM has. They are great to mix with the different
flakes and pearls and come up with totally awesome looking effects.
I've used HOK in the past but it was very expensive and the KK's were not
out when I used them and they didn't have the transparent Marbalizer yet
either. I did go to a HOK workshop prior to the SEM one with Ron,but
at the time I had my hands full in Restoration type work and they didn't
call for custom paint.Ron and SEM came around at the time I was switching my
interest's and I liked how easy SEM mixed and that you could use other
companies bases and such with the SEM line.It sold me right off and
I didn't need to turn to HOK that everybody else was using.I wanted
to be the SEM Color Horizons guy in my area and be the guy to go to
for using their products.Yes you can get the same effects with HOK and others
but for me SEM is simple to use and very versatile.
Ron,meens what he says and no matter how busy his schedule he will take
time to help you out with any technical problems you may have or even questions on the uses of their products.
Thanks RON and I do need to call you but I too have been real busy,
Started working at another custom shop and doing stuff at mine as well
so my hands have been full these days.
Thanks again for the Help Ron and glad to see SEM has teamed up with
Mike and Diana and the rest at his shop.Steve also ,at BearAir will help
the industry with getting their SEM products.
Ron,I'll give you a call soon,thanks brother

OK ALL
We have read your requests and I spoke with Steve at Bear Air today. Here is what we have come up with for phase 1 of the SEM plan:
1. Paint Kits and Single Paint purchases will be availalbe either pre-reduced (recommended for beginners, and those who do not want to mess around with paint mixing), or un-reduced.
2. As a test to see what the actual demand for larger sizes is, Steve will implement a quantity discount, meaning, special prices for multiples of the same item. Based on quantity purchases, he will make larger sizes of the items available.
I hope that you all respect that we have listened to your concerns and are actively trying to meet your needs. As we show need, the needs will be filled. But y'all actually have to start buying it to get to the next level.
:)
